British Invasion Days
Special Activities Celebrating & Commemorating Jasper County’s Role in the American Revolution including Trolley Tours, JC250 Documentary Film Screenings, Cannon & Musket Salutes, and Revolutionary Period Artisans.
Trolley Tours will begin at 10 am on Saturday, May 2.
The British Invasion Tour (Long Format-3 hours)) will depart from the Morris Center in Ridgeland at 10am. It will follow the path of the 1779 British invasion of present-day Jasper County including stops at the Battle of Purrysburg site, Old House (Tomb of Thomas Heyward) site, and the Battle of Coosawhatchie site. It will include an extended stop and tour of Old House Plantation where there will be Revolutionary period living history encampments, cannon and musket salutes, various period demonstrations, children’s activities, and more. Travel times during Trolley Tours will be narrated.
On the same day, there will also be the Thomas Heyward, Jr. and Old House film screening and site tour. The first trolley tour will depart from Hardeeville City Hall at 10am and travel to the Morris Center in Ridgeland where there will be a screening of the JC250 documentary film on Thomas Heyward, Jr. and Old House Plantation at 10:30 in the Morris Center. Following this screening our trolley departs for the Old House historic site. There you will experience a special tour of Old House Plantation including Revolutionary period living history encampments, cannon and musket salutes, various period demonstrations, children’s activities, and more. This tour will last approximately two and a half hours. Travel times during Trolley Tours will be narrated as well.
This same tour will be offered again beginning at 1pm but starting at the Morris Center with the documentary film screening. This tour will last two hours.
