Current Projects on Jasper County’s Revolutionary War Sites
Old House Plantation Jasper County, SC
Old House – Thomas Heyward Tomb
In October 2024, we will have Dan & Rita Elliott of the LAMAR Institute perform a new archeological study of the 4-acre parcel.
Site prep will begin after the completion of the archeological study.
- Landscaping
- Interpretive signs
- Entrance Enhancements
- Professional repair and maintenance of cemetery walls, gates and headstones.
- Flora Fauna identification and signage
- Short film about the archeological dig, a brief history of Thomas Heyward, Jr and his connection to Jasper County, Daniel Heyward’s Old House Plantation, and special attention to Heyward’s entrepreneurial talents.

Millstone Landing is the site associated with the Battle of Purrysburg since the actual site is currently privately owned. We will be installing four Interpretive signs at the landing site for the following topics:
- Purrysburg Battle
- Purrysburg Township
- Maroon Communities during the Revolutionary War
- Purrysburg role in the Civil War – Sherman’s March to the Sea
- State Historical Marker installation
